Coleman Flaskamp and the Trust-First Pool Service Model

Why Did a Teacher Start a Pool Business?

Coleman Flaskamp didn’t plan to become a pool guy. He spent years teaching social science and coaching high school basketball in Michigan and Florida. But in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted education, he made a move. He founded CAM6 Pool Service in Cocoa, Florida.

“I wanted to keep helping people,” Coleman says. “Just in a different way. Pool care felt like a natural fit because it’s still about communication, consistency, and trust.”

CAM6 is now one of the most recognized residential pool service companies in Brevard County, covering areas like Titusville, Rockledge, Cocoa Beach, and Viera.

What Does CAM6 Pool Service Do?

CAM6 offers weekly pool maintenance, chemical-only plans, and minor equipment troubleshooting. The team, Coleman and two full-time technicians, handles skimming, brushing, filter cleaning, and precise water chemistry balancing. Every service includes a digital report with photos.

“Homeowners get to see what we did and why we did it,” Coleman explains. “It’s not just pool care. It’s communication.”

That extra layer of transparency sets CAM6 apart. Clients don’t have to wonder if the job was done. They see it.

What Is Coleman Flaskamp’s Background?

Before launching CAM6, Coleman taught subjects like psychology, sociology, and government at schools including Merritt Island and Astronaut High. He also coached varsity basketball at multiple high schools and served as an assistant coach at Florida Tech and Tusculum College.

“I treated every classroom like a team and every team like a classroom,” he says. “That mindset never left me.”

He holds a Bachelor’s in Social Science Education from Central Michigan University and a Master’s in Teaching and Learning from Grand Canyon University. He also studied criminal justice at Macomb Community College.

How Did Teaching Skills Translate to Pool Work?

When Coleman started CAM6, he knew he was entering a field where people often feel frustrated. Missed appointments. Vague answers. Inconsistent service.

“I wanted to fix that,” he says. “I thought, what if we just showed up on time, explained things clearly, and did the job right?”

That’s exactly what CAM6 does. The company’s motto “We take your pool from GREEN…to CLEAN” is more than a tagline. It reflects Coleman’s belief in visible results and follow-through.

What Makes CAM6 Different From Other Pool Services?

CAM6 doesn’t operate like a big chain. Coleman keeps the company intentionally small to maintain high standards. He personally trains every technician, treating onboarding like a coaching session.

“We go pool by pool,” he says. “I explain not just how to do the work, but why it matters. I want my team to understand the science behind what they’re doing.”

He even runs scenario drills, algae blooms, broken heaters, cloudy water, and reviews customer feedback in weekly check-ins.

This structure is rooted in Coleman’s coaching background. “In basketball, you prep for game-day. In pool service, it’s the same. You’re solving problems in real time. The stakes are just different.”

What Do Clients Say About CAM6?

CAM6 clients describe the service as dependable and detailed. One longtime customer, Jenna Ellis, says, “I’ve never had a pool company that cared this much about doing it right.”

Another family told Coleman that after a system upgrade, they finally felt confident using their pool again. “They said, ‘Now we know you’ve got us,’” Coleman recalls. “That stuck with me.”

Why Is Mentorship Still Central to CAM6?

Even though Coleman now spends more time poolside than courtside, he hasn’t stopped coaching. He still volunteers with fastpitch travel teams and stays active in youth sports. He also sees every service visit as a moment to teach.

“I show homeowners their chlorine levels, how the filter works, and what needs attention,” he says. “That five-minute explanation makes a huge difference.”

Coleman views pool ownership as another kind of education. “When people understand how things work, they take better care of them. And they worry less.”

Why Is It Called CAM6?

The name “CAM6” is a personal tribute. Coleman hasn’t shared the full meaning publicly, but says it reflects family, values, and legacy.

“It reminds me why I started this,” he says. “It keeps me grounded.”

What’s Next for CAM6?

Coleman isn’t planning to scale fast. He wants to grow carefully, hiring techs who share the company’s values and work ethic. He’s exploring eco-friendly treatments and energy-efficient equipment upgrades. He also hopes to launch a trades mentorship program and offer local scholarships.

“I don’t want to be the biggest,” he says. “I want to be the one people trust.”

What Drives Coleman Flaskamp?

When asked what advice he’d give new business owners, Coleman keeps it simple.

“Start with your values,” he says. “Show up. Communicate. Follow through. People remember how you make them feel.”

In Brevard County, Coleman Flaskamp isn’t just maintaining pools. He’s rebuilding trust, one backyard at a time.
