David Achord: California Attorney with 20 Years in Personal Injury Law

David Achord has spent more than two decades representing personal injury clients in California, recovering over $100 million through thousands of resolved claims. His practice emphasizes clear communication, consistent preparation, and the belief that trust is built through honesty rather than credentials alone.

David Achord has practiced personal injury law in California for over 20 years, recovering more than $100 million for clients

There was no single moment when David Achord knew he had built something lasting. No dramatic courtroom victory that changed everything, no case that redefined his career in an instant. Instead, there were thousands of conversations. Clients who called uncertain and afraid. Families trying to navigate medical bills and insurance paperwork while recovering from accidents. People who needed someone to listen before they needed someone to argue on their behalf.

Over more than twenty years, those conversations accumulated into a body of work that now exceeds $100 million recovered for clients. The figure is substantial, but Achord describes it with the same steady tone he applies to most aspects of his practice. It happened because he kept showing up, preparing, and trying to do the right thing for each person who walked through the door.

The Structure Behind the Results

Achord graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Law and passed the California Bar Examination on his first attempt during a year when UC Davis achieved the highest bar passage rate in California. He recalls preparing for the Bar and realizing there would never be a day when he suddenly felt completely ready. At some point, he learned, you trust the work you have put in and move forward.

That same principle has shaped his approach to legal practice. He founded San Diego Injury Law Center and built it around personal injury cases involving motor vehicle accidents, motorcycles, trucks, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The firm uses a hybrid model, handling core legal work internally while collaborating with outside professionals such as investigators, medical experts, and accident reconstruction specialists when specialized knowledge is required.

Achord has secured settlements of $6.5 million, $3 million, and multiple $1 million recoveries. But he is quick to note that the larger figure reflects consistency rather than a handful of exceptional cases. The work is methodical. Each case requires preparation, communication, and a willingness to explain complex legal processes in terms that make sense to people who are navigating them for the first time.

What Clients Remember

Achord believes that credentials and experience help open the door, but they are not what build trust. Most clients want to know that someone is listening, paying attention, and willing to tell them the truth, even when the truth is not what they hoped to hear.

He has observed that people come to an attorney because they are dealing with uncertainty. You cannot always promise a specific outcome, he notes, but you can promise that you will communicate honestly, return calls, and explain what is happening every step of the way. Clients appreciate honesty. If something is going to take time, tell them. If there is uncertainty, explain why. People are much more comfortable when they understand the process instead of being left wondering what is happening.

Over two decades, Achord has watched client expectations shift. People today expect faster responses and more frequent updates than they did twenty years ago. The legal side of the job remains important, but listening has become just as critical. Clients want to know they have been heard. That starts by asking thoughtful questions instead of making assumptions.

Building Something Beyond the Case Files

Achord has extended his commitment to service beyond his legal practice. He founded Shoes for Kids, a charitable initiative that has delivered more than 500 pairs of shoes to children in Africa through his contributions. He is also developing Water for Life, a project focused on providing water filtration systems to communities without reliable access to clean drinking water.

Both efforts reflect a belief that if you are going to do something, you should put your full effort into it. Whether it is law, charity work, learning an instrument, or researching a new industry, Achord likes to keep learning.

He has spent more than eight years researching cryptocurrency and emerging financial systems, an interest that sits alongside passions for music, fishing, and high-performance automobiles. He plays drums, guitar, and enjoys karaoke. His daily routine begins with reviewing his calendar and prioritizing tasks before emails arrive, focusing on concentration-intensive work first. Client communication fills much of the day. Evenings shift to personal interests: cryptocurrency reading, guitar practice, nonprofit planning.

The Work That Builds Confidence

Achord does not believe you have to know everything before you start. You have to know enough to take the first step. The rest comes from putting in the work. People spend a lot of time waiting until they feel confident, he observes. Confidence usually shows up after you have done something a few times, not before.

It is a perspective shaped by experience. He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of California, Riverside before attending law school. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, Consumers Attorneys of San Diego, the National Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, and Consumer Attorneys of California.

His practice is based in San Diego, a city where he has built his career near the water, close to Pacific Beach, Mission Bay, and Shelter Island. The geography matters less than the consistency. He has been in the same place, doing the same kind of work, for more than twenty years.

Technology, Change, and Adaptation

Achord enjoys learning how new systems work. Technology changes quickly, and he believes it is important to understand what is happening rather than ignore it. His interest in cryptocurrency is part of that broader curiosity. He has studied blockchain systems, trading strategies, and the financial architecture behind decentralized networks.

That same adaptability applies to his legal practice. The tools have changed. Communication happens faster. Client expectations have evolved. But the core of the work remains the same: preparation, honesty, and a willingness to explain what is happening in terms people can understand.

Looking Forward with David Achord

Achord continues to represent clients at San Diego Injury Law Center while expanding his charitable work and deepening his understanding of emerging technologies. He remains active in professional legal organizations and maintains a practice built on the principles that have guided him for more than two decades.

The work is not dramatic. It is steady. It is built on the belief that people remember how they were treated long after they remember the legal details of their case. And it reflects a career constructed one conversation at a time, with the understanding that trust is not granted at the beginning but earned through every interaction that follows.
