What keeps you motivated and excited about what you do?

What keeps me motivated and excited about my work is the incredible potential for innovation in the health tech industry. Every day, I get the chance to create solutions that can significantly improve people’s lives. One specific project that fuels my enthusiasm is the development of a wearable device that monitors and improves users’ mental health through real-time biofeedback. Seeing the positive impact that our early prototypes have had on test users is immensely gratifying. Knowing that our technology can help people manage stress and improve their well-being keeps me driven and passionate.

Another aspect that excites me is the collaborative environment within my team. We have a diverse group of talented individuals who bring unique perspectives to the table. I remember a brainstorming session where we were stuck on a design issue for our wearable device. One of our team members, who has a background in graphic design, suggested a user interface change that none of us had considered. This change not only solved our problem but also made the device more user-friendly. Moments like these remind me of the power of teamwork and how collective creativity can lead to breakthrough solutions.

What’s your go-to way to relax and enjoy yourself during your downtime?

In my downtime, I find relaxation and enjoyment in physical activities, particularly running and skiing. Running is my daily ritual; it’s more than just a workout for me. It’s a time when I can clear my mind and think through complex problems without distractions. There’s something incredibly meditative about the rhythm of running. I often run along the scenic trails near my home in Los Angeles, where the natural beauty helps me reset and recharge.

During the winter months, I love spending time in Deer Valley, Utah, where I enjoy skiing. Skiing allows me to push my limits physically while also providing a sense of freedom and exhilaration. One memorable trip was when my wife and I decided to tackle a particularly challenging slope. It was tough, but the sense of accomplishment we felt after making it down was incredible. These experiences not only help me relax but also remind me of the importance of taking on challenges, both personally and professionally.

What do you think is your single most crucial trait for success?

I believe the most crucial trait for my success is resilience. The journey of entrepreneurship is filled with ups and downs, and resilience has helped me navigate these fluctuations. For instance, when we were developing our first product, we faced numerous setbacks, from technical failures to funding issues. There were moments when giving up seemed like an easier option. However, my ability to stay resilient and keep pushing forward made all the difference.

One specific instance that tested my resilience was during the early stages of our health tech startup. We had spent months developing a prototype for a new health monitoring device. Just weeks before our planned launch, we discovered a significant flaw that required us to go back to the drawing board. It was a disheartening moment, but instead of succumbing to frustration, I rallied the team. We worked tirelessly to fix the issue, and in the end, the product we launched was far superior to what we initially envisioned. This experience reinforced my belief that resilience is key to overcoming obstacles and achieving long-term success.

How do you handle negative feedback when you receive it?

Handling negative feedback is crucial for growth and improvement. When I receive negative feedback, I first take a moment to process it without reacting defensively. I remind myself that feedback, whether positive or negative, is valuable information that can help me and my team improve. For example, during the early stages of our startup, we received critical feedback from beta testers about our product’s user interface. Initially, it was tough to hear that something we worked hard on wasn’t meeting expectations.

Instead of dismissing the feedback, we held a series of meetings to understand the users’ concerns better. We invited some of the testers to discuss their experiences in detail and took their suggestions seriously. By doing so, we were able to make significant improvements to the product. This not only enhanced the user experience but also built trust with our testers, who appreciated that we valued their input. This approach to negative feedback has been instrumental in helping us refine our products and grow as a company.

What’s the hardest obstacle you’ve overcome in your life or career, and how did you do it?

The hardest obstacle I’ve overcome in my career was securing initial funding for our health tech startup. Despite having a solid business plan and a passionate team, we struggled to convince investors to believe in our vision. Many investors were skeptical about the viability of our product in a crowded market. It was a period filled with uncertainty and doubt. However, I was determined not to let this obstacle derail our mission.

To overcome this challenge, we decided to take a different approach. We participated in several pitch competitions and startup incubators to gain visibility and credibility. Additionally, we focused on building a strong prototype and gathering user testimonials to demonstrate our product’s impact. This helped us secure the funding we needed to move forward. The experience taught me the importance of persistence, adaptability, and the willingness to explore alternative paths to achieve goals.
