When Dustin Stanley talks about retirement, it’s not just about money. It’s about freedom, security, and peace of mind. “You can have anything in life that you want, if you’ll just help enough other people get what they want,” he says, quoting Zig Ziglar. That line isn’t a slogan for Stanley, it’s a blueprint.
Today, as the Founder and President of Stanley Wealth & Retirement in Sarasota, Florida, Dustin has built a firm that serves clients across the state with one promise: to help retirees and pre-retirees build financial strategies that truly fit their lives. His approach blends education with empathy, discipline with faith, and decades of business experience with a relentless drive to serve.

From Family Business to Financial Freedom
Dustin’s career didn’t begin in finance—it began in the machine shop of his family’s company, Hytec, in Louisville, Kentucky. “I wanted to retire from there someday,” he recalls. “When it closed, I hated it. But that’s how I found my perfect career.”
After 24 years working his way up from machine operator to executive vice president, Dustin was suddenly forced to reinvent himself. That shift, painful as it was, became the catalyst for everything that followed. With a natural aptitude for math and problem-solving, he turned toward financial planning—a field where precision and people skills mattered equally.
He joined a small retirement planning firm in 2013 and quickly rose to the top. Within two years, his performance and leadership earned him a partnership at Strategic Wealth Designers, where he helped grow the firm from roughly $20 million to nearly $3 billion in assets under management.
The Turning Point: Education as Empowerment
Despite his success in a large firm, Dustin wanted something more personal. In 2025, he launched Stanley Wealth & Retirement with a clear mission: empower clients to retire smarter through education and personalized planning.
His flagship initiative, The Academy of Retirement, reflects that vision. Structured like a university course, it helps attendees understand income strategies, taxes, Social Security, and estate planning before they ever sit down for a consultation. “Our goal is clarity,” Dustin explains. “If you can understand how your plan works, you can make better decisions for your family.”
The firm’s model combines financial education with hands-on strategy, offering what he calls “retirement engineering”—the art of designing plans that perform in real life, not just on paper.
The Mindset Behind the Mission
Dustin’s professional philosophy is shaped by a simple but unshakable belief in hard work. “Anytime I have obstacles in my way, I just put my head down and work that much harder,” he says. “My dad taught me that we just work harder no matter what it takes—we do it.”
That work ethic, honed in his early days at Hytec, continues to guide him. He doesn’t believe in shortcuts or complacency. “Success is never owned,” he says. “It’s rented—and the rent is due every single week, month, and year.”
His approach to clients follows the same principle. “You need to be able to listen and understand what worries people and what their goals are,” he says. “Most advisors think one solution works for everyone. That’s not true. You have to listen, understand, and create something that’s right for each family.”
Family, Faith, and Florida
Outside of finance, Dustin’s life revolves around family. He and his wife, Kristin, split their time between Kentucky and Florida, raising two sons: Jake, 27, a train engineer, and Skye, 16, a gifted chess player on the autism spectrum. “He’s one of the most beautiful souls you’ll ever meet,” Dustin says proudly.
Faith also plays a central role. Dustin is a member of Grace Family Church in South Tampa and continues to seek a church home in Sarasota. His faith, he says, keeps him grounded. “It reminds me that everything we build is temporary, but the way we treat people—that lasts.”
The Broader Vision
Beyond retirement planning, Dustin’s entrepreneurial streak runs deep. He’s invested in ventures ranging from hospitality to healthcare, including a premium medical cannabis dispensary in Louisville and an upscale Tampa nightclub. What ties these pursuits together isn’t profit—it’s passion. “I like building things that make people feel something,” he says. “Whether that’s financial confidence, a good night out, or better access to care.”
For Dustin, success isn’t a number—it’s a ripple effect. He measures it by the families he’s helped, the lives he’s changed, and the opportunities he’s created for his team. “I’ll never get to a point where I feel like I’ve made it,” he says. “Because there’s always someone else I can help.”
A Life Built on Purpose
Each December, Dustin sits down to write his goals for the new year—professional, personal, and spiritual. “I like to think in two-to-three-year increments,” he says. “You can do a lot more than you think in that time.”
It’s that mix of reflection and momentum that defines him. Whether teaching a packed classroom about tax strategy or fishing with his family on the Florida coast, Dustin Stanley embodies his own advice: keep pushing, keep growing, and keep giving people what they need to live their best lives.
Interview with Dustin Stanley
How did your transition from manufacturing to finance shape the way you lead today?
When our family business closed, I thought it was the end of my story. I’d spent 24 years there and planned to retire from it. But that moment forced me to reinvent myself. In manufacturing, precision matters—you measure twice, cut once. In finance, it’s similar. You have to plan carefully, analyze every variable, and make sure you’re doing what’s best for the person in front of you. That discipline shaped how I lead my team and how we serve our clients today.
What inspired you to start Stanley Wealth & Retirement?
I wanted to build a firm that focused on education and trust, not sales. So many people walk into retirement without a clear understanding of their finances, and I wanted to change that. Our Academy of Retirement classes are one of the ways we do it—people learn how income, taxes, and Social Security work before they ever sit down with an advisor. The mission was simple: empower people to retire smarter.
You’ve said “Success is rented, and the rent is due every week.” How does that mindset influence your work?
It keeps me humble and hungry. No matter how well we do one year, I never want to feel like I’ve “made it.” Every client deserves our best effort, every single time. That quote reminds me that consistency is more important than comfort.
Your career has been defined by rapid growth. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about scaling a business?
The biggest lesson is that growth should never come at the cost of clarity. When you’re scaling quickly, it’s easy to lose sight of the people behind the numbers. I’ve learned that systems are important, but relationships are everything. Listen, adapt, and keep your core mission front and center.
What role does family play in your motivation?
Family is my “why.” My wife Kristin is my rock, and my two boys, Jake and Skye, keep me grounded. Skye is on the autism spectrum and is one of the kindest, most brilliant people I know. He’s a reminder of what really matters—kindness, patience, and understanding. Everything I do, professionally or personally, ties back to providing stability and joy for them.
You’re known for helping clients find peace of mind in retirement. What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone preparing to retire?
Plan early and plan with intention. Don’t just think about money—think about lifestyle, taxes, and healthcare. Retirement isn’t just about stopping work; it’s about creating freedom. If you understand your plan, you can enjoy your life without stress. My goal is to make that peace of mind a reality for every client who walks through our doors.
