Gelbmann Podiatry: Where Tech and Personal Care Meet in Chicago

In the heart of Chicago, a small clinic is quietly reshaping how people think about foot and ankle care. Since opening its doors in 2016, Gelbmann Podiatry has built a reputation for merging compassion with cutting-edge technology—making modern podiatry more personal, accessible, and effective.

“We started with a simple idea,” says the clinic’s founder. “Treat every patient like family—and use the best technology available to get them back on their feet.”

The Beginning of a Different Kind of Clinic

Before Gelbmann Podiatry existed, many Chicago patients faced a familiar frustration: rushed appointments, generic treatment plans, and little follow-up. That gap inspired the clinic’s founding vision—a place where care feels human again.

“Too often, medicine can feel transactional,” the founder explains. “We wanted to create a clinic where people feel heard, cared for, and empowered in their recovery.”

When the practice opened, it was built on three principles: compassion, affordability, and innovation. The team wanted to show that medical excellence doesn’t have to mean complexity or coldness. From the start, that balance became their trademark.

Technology That Heals Faster

One of the most defining traits of Gelbmann Podiatry is its focus on technology. The clinic uses tools often found in hospital systems, but in a comfortable private setting.

Among its key innovations is the MLS Class IV therapeutic laser, a non-invasive system that reduces pain and inflammation by stimulating tissue repair at the cellular level. Patients dealing with chronic foot pain or sports injuries have found recovery times significantly faster with the laser’s use.

“We’ve seen patients who were struggling for months finally find relief after just a few sessions,” says a team member. “It’s exciting to see technology make that kind of difference.”

Another example is the clinic’s digital X-ray system, which provides instant, high-resolution images. It allows podiatrists to diagnose conditions—like stress fractures or bone deformities—within minutes, not days. That speed often means patients can begin treatment right away.

The clinic also uses Swift microwave therapy, a breakthrough treatment for removing stubborn plantar warts. Instead of traditional freezing or cutting methods, the Swift system targets the virus beneath the skin, prompting the body’s immune response to clear it naturally.

“It’s quick, clean, and virtually painless,” the founder notes. “And it’s been a game-changer for patients who’ve tried everything else.”

A Human Approach to Healing

Despite all the advanced tech, Gelbmann Podiatry never loses sight of the human side of healthcare. Appointments are intentionally longer than average, giving patients time to ask questions and understand their options.

Every treatment plan is customized. Whether it’s Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendinitis, Hammer Toe, or Athlete’s Foot, the clinic tailors its approach to each person’s activity level, lifestyle, and goals. For some, that might mean physical therapy and footwear guidance. For others, it could mean a minimally invasive procedure performed right in the office.

“We believe in doing what’s necessary—but never more than that,” the founder says. “Our goal is always to help people heal faster and get back to the life they love.”

This philosophy extends to patients with chronic or complex conditions, including those suffering from non-healing wounds. Gelbmann Podiatry offers advanced wound care solutions that integrate modern dressings, biologics, and custom treatment protocols—often avoiding the need for hospital-based interventions.

Innovation with a Purpose

While the technology attracts attention, it’s the purpose behind it that keeps patients coming back. Every device and system is chosen for its real-world benefit, not just its novelty.

“We don’t use tech for show,” says the founder. “We use it because it helps people heal better, with less pain and fewer complications.”

That patient-first mindset has shaped every part of the clinic—from the design of the exam rooms to the way follow-ups are handled. Even billing and scheduling systems are optimized for convenience, ensuring transparency and reducing stress for patients navigating treatment plans.

Growing with the Community

As Gelbmann Podiatry continues to grow, it remains deeply connected to the Chicago community it serves. The clinic’s team sees itself not just as healthcare providers, but as neighbors—helping the city stay mobile, active, and healthy.

“Our patients are teachers, athletes, parents, and grandparents,” the founder says. “Each one has a story—and we’re honored to play a small part in keeping those stories moving.”

The Future of Foot Care

Nearly a decade after its founding, Gelbmann Podiatry stands as an example of how small, patient-focused clinics can lead the way in medical innovation. With technology advancing rapidly and patient expectations shifting toward personalized care, the clinic is already thinking ahead.

“We’re constantly learning, testing, and improving,” the founder reflects. “The future of podiatry isn’t just about fixing feet—it’s about improving quality of life.”

In an era where healthcare can feel impersonal, Gelbmann Podiatry reminds us that empathy and innovation don’t have to be opposites. Sometimes, the most advanced care starts with something simple: listening.

Interview with Gelbmann Podiatry

What inspired you to start Gelbmann Podiatry back in 2016?

I saw a gap in how foot and ankle care was being delivered. Too many patients were getting rushed appointments and cookie-cutter treatment plans. I wanted to build something different—a place where people felt seen, heard, and cared for. The goal was simple: combine compassionate care with the latest technology to get patients back on their feet, both literally and figuratively.

Your clinic is known for being tech-forward. Why make technology such a big part of what you do?

Because technology helps us heal smarter. Tools like the MLS Class IV laser or our digital X-rays let us diagnose and treat issues faster and more accurately. It’s not about replacing the human touch—it’s about enhancing it. Every piece of technology we bring in has one purpose: better results for patients with less pain and downtime.

The Swift microwave system for wart removal has been getting attention. What makes it different?

Swift is one of those technologies that changes how we think about treatment. Traditional methods—like freezing or cutting—can be painful and slow to heal. Swift uses targeted microwaves to trigger the body’s natural immune response, which clears the virus from the inside out. It’s clean, quick, and surprisingly comfortable for patients. Most importantly, it works where other treatments often fail.

How do you make sure every patient’s experience feels personal?

We take the time to listen. That might sound simple, but it’s rare in healthcare today. Every patient’s lifestyle and goals are different—a teacher who stands all day needs something different than a marathon runner. We build treatment plans around people, not just their symptoms. That personal connection makes all the difference in recovery.

You treat a wide range of conditions—from hammer toes to chronic wounds. What’s your approach to complex cases?

For chronic or complex wounds, for example, we use a multidisciplinary approach that includes advanced dressings, biologics, and sometimes minor in-office procedures. Our focus is on promoting healing while minimizing disruption to the patient’s daily life. We’ve had patients who were close to needing hospital-based care but healed completely under our outpatient model. That’s the kind of outcome that motivates us.

Looking ahead, what’s next for Gelbmann Podiatry?

The future is about expanding our ability to help more people while keeping that personal touch. We’re exploring new regenerative therapies and smarter diagnostic tools that will continue to shorten recovery times. But our mission won’t change—deliver exceptional care with compassion, integrity, and innovation. That’s the heart of what we do.
