Josiah Grauso’s Guide to Retirement Income and Social Security

Financial planning isn’t just about numbers. It’s about people, their goals, and their futures. Josiah Grauso understands this better than most. With nearly 20 years in the financial services industry, he has helped individuals and families plan for retirement, optimize Social Security, and create stable income strategies.

But Josiah’s journey into finance wasn’t just about making a living—it was about making a difference.

A Foundation in Finance

Josiah grew up in Northwest New Jersey in a close-knit family. His father started in insurance sales before founding ASC Financial Group, the firm Josiah now helps lead. Watching his father build something from the ground up showed him the value of long-term planning and financial security.

“Seeing my father create something meaningful and impactful showed me the power of hard work and vision,” he recalls.

After graduating from Northampton Community College with a degree in business management, Josiah took his first steps in the industry as a teller at PNC Bank. He quickly moved up to financial consultant, but in 2007, he made a decision that would shape his career—he joined ASC Financial Group.

“It felt like coming home,” he says. “I wanted to be part of something that truly helped people build their futures.”

Balancing Risk and Security in Retirement Planning

Josiah’s expertise centers around retirement planning, Social Security optimization, and income diversification. He has seen firsthand how failing to plan for the future can cause financial stress—especially during major economic downturns.

One defining moment in his career was the 2008 financial crisis. Many families saw their savings wiped out, forcing them to rethink their retirement plans. For Josiah, this reinforced the importance of risk management and long-term security.

“The crash showed me that financial stability isn’t about chasing big returns—it’s about making smart, steady decisions that protect what you’ve worked for,” he explains.

This philosophy guides his work today. He focuses on building sustainable income streams for clients so they don’t have to worry about outliving their savings.

The Role of Faith and Community in Financial Decision-Making

For Josiah, financial planning is more than just strategy—it’s about values. Faith and community involvement shape his approach to both life and business.

As an active member of Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church, Josiah volunteers regularly at the church’s Cold Weather Shelter, helping provide a safe space for those in need during harsh winters.

“Serving at the shelter has given me a new perspective on money,” he says. “True wealth isn’t just about what you accumulate. It’s about how you use your resources to help others and make a lasting impact.”

This belief extends into his work. Josiah encourages clients to align their financial plans with their personal values, whether through charitable giving, legacy planning, or ensuring financial security for future generations.

Navigating Social Security and Income Diversification

One of the most common concerns Josiah hears from clients is how to maximize their Social Security benefits. He emphasizes that timing is key.

“A lot of people don’t realize that claiming Social Security too early can significantly reduce their lifetime benefits,” he explains.

He works closely with clients to develop strategic claiming plans—often delaying benefits to maximize payouts while using other income sources in the meantime.

Beyond Social Security, Josiah is a strong advocate for income diversification. He encourages clients to think beyond pensions and 401(k)s, incorporating annuities, investment earnings, and passive income sources to create a more stable retirement plan.

“The key to financial security isn’t relying on one source of income,” he advises. “It’s about having multiple streams that work together to create stability.”

Keeping Up with a Changing Financial Landscape

The financial industry is always evolving, and Josiah stays ahead by attending industry conferences, studying market trends, and continuously learning. He holds several certifications, including:

  • Series 65 Investment License
  • National Social Security Advisor (NSSA) Certification
  • Pennsylvania Life and Health and Long-Term Care Insurance Agent

But technical expertise isn’t enough. Josiah believes that clear communication is just as important as financial knowledge.

“A good financial plan only works if the person understands it,” he says. “I take pride in breaking things down in simple, relatable terms so people can make informed decisions with confidence.”

A Family-Oriented Approach to Success

Despite his busy schedule, Josiah prioritizes his family. He and his wife, Sarah, are raising four children in Bartonsville, Pennsylvania, where they enjoy outdoor activities like snorkeling and skiing.

“Success isn’t just about career achievements,” he shares. “It’s about having a life that’s rich in relationships, experiences, and purpose.”

Balancing work, family, and community isn’t always easy, but Josiah approaches it the same way he approaches financial planning—with clarity, discipline, and a long-term vision.

The Future of Financial Planning

Looking ahead, Josiah remains committed to his core mission: helping families secure their financial futures.

He is expanding his financial education efforts, hosting workshops on Social Security, retirement strategies, and investment planning. His goal is to ensure that more people have access to the knowledge they need to make confident financial decisions.

“I don’t just want to manage people’s money,” he says. “I want to give them the tools to manage their own futures.”

Whether it’s through one-on-one advising, public workshops, or community service, Josiah continues to make a lasting impact—one smart financial decision at a time.
