Interview with The Universe Guru, Mina Irfan

What keeps you motivated and excited about what you do?

What keeps me motivated and excited about my work is witnessing the transformation in the women I mentor. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone who has struggled with self-doubt begin to shine with confidence and purpose. Each time a client achieves a breakthrough or reaches a goal they once thought impossible, it renews my passion for what I do. For instance, I remember a woman who came to me feeling lost after a divorce, uncertain about her future. Through our work together, she reconnected with her passions, started a new career, and built a life filled with joy and purpose. Hearing her say, “I finally feel like myself again,” was an incredibly fulfilling moment that reminded me why I started this journey.

The ever-evolving nature of personal development also keeps me inspired. There are always new insights and approaches to explore, and I love incorporating them into my teachings. I often attend workshops and seminars to stay current with the latest trends, which helps me provide the best guidance possible for my clients. Seeing my clients apply these new strategies and succeed reaffirms the importance of staying curious and open-minded. It’s also thrilling to see how the personal growth of each woman creates a ripple effect, positively impacting their families and communities. This larger impact is what makes my work feel meaningful and exciting every day.

What’s your go-to way to relax and enjoy yourself during your downtime?

During my downtime, I love to immerse myself in nature. There’s something incredibly rejuvenating about being surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of the natural world. I often take long walks in a nearby park or visit botanical gardens to unwind. The fresh air and greenery help me clear my mind and recharge my energy. I find that these moments of solitude in nature are not only calming but also incredibly inspiring, often sparking new ideas for my work and personal life.

Another favorite way to relax is through creative expression. I enjoy painting and writing poetry, which allows me to explore my emotions and thoughts in a different medium. Recently, I started a small project where I paint mandalas, which are both meditative and expressive. This creative process helps me connect with my inner self and brings me a sense of peace and fulfillment. Additionally, spending quality time with my family is essential for my well-being. Whether it’s having a cozy movie night with my kids or cooking a new recipe together, these simple moments of joy and connection are what truly make my downtime special.

What do you think is your single most crucial trait for success?

I believe my most crucial trait for success is resilience. Life is filled with ups and downs, and the ability to bounce back from setbacks is essential for long-term success. My journey into coaching began after the profound loss of my mother. Turning that pain into a source of strength was a defining moment for me. I had to learn how to channel my grief into something positive and transformative, which eventually led to the creation of my YouTube channel and The Universe Guru. This experience taught me that resilience is about adapting to change and using challenges as opportunities for growth.

In my work, resilience is evident in how I approach both successes and failures. I view challenges as learning experiences that help me grow and evolve. For example, when I first launched my digital courses, not everything went as planned. There were technical issues and times when I doubted myself. Instead of giving up, I used those experiences to refine my approach and improve my offerings. This persistence paid off, and I was eventually recognized as Thinkific’s #1 course seller for two consecutive years. Resilience has not only helped me achieve personal success but also inspires the women I mentor to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles they face.

What’s the weirdest thing that has happened in your career?

One of the weirdest yet most intriguing experiences in my career happened during a live seminar I was conducting. In the middle of my talk about feminine energy, the lights in the room began to flicker. At first, I thought it was a technical glitch, but it quickly turned into a full-on light show, with bulbs blinking in sequence around the room. The audience gasped, and some even laughed, thinking it was part of the presentation. It was a bizarre moment, but I used it as an opportunity to demonstrate how life often throws unexpected surprises at us. I turned the incident into a metaphor about embracing change and staying grounded amidst chaos.

After the seminar, one of the attendees, who was a professional electrician, approached me. He explained that the flickering lights were caused by a rare electrical surge that he had never seen before. We laughed about how it seemed like the universe was trying to make a point during my talk about energy. That experience was weird but memorable, and it reminded me of the importance of adaptability and humor in life. It also turned into a fun story that I often share with clients when discussing how to handle unexpected challenges with grace and resilience.

How do you handle negative feedback when you receive it?

I view negative feedback as a valuable opportunity for growth. While it can be challenging to hear criticism, I believe that it’s essential for personal and professional development. When I receive negative feedback, I take a step back and assess the comments objectively. I ask myself what I can learn from the feedback and how I can improve. Early in my career, I received criticism about one of my courses, which was a tough pill to swallow. Instead of getting defensive, I reached out to some clients to better understand their perspectives. This process helped me make necessary adjustments that significantly improved the course content and delivery.

I also remind myself that not all feedback is a reflection of my worth or abilities. Sometimes criticism stems from a misunderstanding or a mismatch in expectations. In those cases, I focus on maintaining open communication and clarifying any issues. By approaching feedback with an open mind and a willingness to learn, I can turn criticism into a constructive force. This approach not only strengthens my work but also builds trust with my clients. Ultimately, handling negative feedback with grace and a growth mindset has been crucial in refining my practice and maintaining authenticity in my work.

What’s the hardest obstacle you’ve overcome in your life or career, and how did you do it?

The hardest obstacle I’ve overcome was dealing with self-doubt and imposter syndrome when I first started my career as a life coach. Transitioning from sharing my personal journey on YouTube to becoming a professional coach felt daunting. Despite my academic background and personal experiences, I often questioned my ability to guide others. I worried about whether I was truly capable of helping women transform their lives. This self-doubt was paralyzing at times, making me question every decision and action.

To overcome this obstacle, I leaned heavily on inner work, such as meditation and journaling, to build self-awareness and confidence. I also sought mentorship from seasoned coaches who provided invaluable guidance and encouragement. Their support helped me realize that everyone experiences self-doubt, but it doesn’t have to hold you back. I gradually learned to trust myself and my instincts, using each client success story as a reminder of my capabilities. This process taught me that overcoming self-doubt is about embracing vulnerability and taking action despite fear. Today, I share my journey with clients to help them understand that self-doubt is a common challenge, but with perseverance and self-compassion, it can be overcome.
