He could not have named the science yet. But he was already paying attention to the right things.

After graduating in 2004, he stayed at Naples Grande as an Assistant Superintendent, managing a maintenance crew of roughly eighteen staff, overseeing fertilization programs, irrigation scheduling, and a bunker renovation project that required coordinating work across an active championship layout. The role lasted seven years. When he left in 2011, he left with a reputation for operational discipline and a specific kind of patience that comes from managing warm-season turf through Florida summers.
Gulf Dunes Golf Club in Sarasota was where the environmental dimension of his work came fully into focus.
