Rhett Hintze has had a career that many would envy. From his early days in public service to leading a major communications firm, Rhett has mastered the art of building systems that work. He’s all about finding solutions, building trust, and getting results.
But how does someone go from shaping government policies to scaling operations in the private sector? Rhett’s journey shows how lessons from public service can create success in business.
Let’s break it down.
How It All Started
Rhett grew up in Wisconsin in a hardworking family. His father was an electrical engineer, and his mother dedicated her time to raising the family.
“My parents taught me the value of working hard and staying curious,” Rhett says. “That foundation shaped everything I’ve done since.”
This upbringing inspired him to aim high. He learned to balance discipline with creativity, traits that would serve him well in his career.
Rhett started his career in public service with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He worked in the Governor’s Office, focusing on technology policy and multi-agency coordination.
“It was all about solving big problems,” he explains. “Public service taught me patience, planning, and how to bring people together.”
One of Rhett’s biggest achievements was working on e-government strategies. These projects involved simplifying systems so the government could better serve its citizens. This early experience gave him a strong foundation in leadership and systems thinking.
Moving to the Private Sector
In 2001, Rhett made the leap to the private sector. He joined Bravo Group, a strategic communications firm in Pennsylvania.
At Bravo Group, Rhett became Chief Operating Officer. His role was all about improving operations, cutting costs, and growing the company.
“When I moved to Bravo Group, I took what I’d learned in public service and applied it to business,” Rhett says. “The principles are the same—accountability, collaboration, and focus.”
Rhett’s leadership at Bravo Group was transformative. During his 23 years there, he helped the company grow its workforce by 130%. He also led efforts to reduce annual expenses by 15%.
That kind of growth doesn’t just happen. Rhett brought in new technology to streamline processes and improve efficiency. He also created tools for tracking budgets and expenses, which helped the team stay on target.
“I’m proud of how we grew while staying true to our values,” he shares.
Bravo Group became the largest privately-held PR firm in Pennsylvania during Rhett’s time there. It’s a testament to his strategic vision and leadership skills.
Lessons from Both Worlds
Whether in government or business, Rhett believes in the power of teamwork.
“You can’t succeed alone,” he says. “The best results come when people work together.”
At Bravo Group, he fostered a culture of collaboration. Teams were encouraged to share ideas and support one another. This approach not only improved morale but also led to innovative solutions.
In public service, Rhett learned the importance of being open and honest. He carried that lesson into the private sector.
“People need to know why decisions are being made,” he explains. “Transparency builds trust, whether you’re talking to a team or a client.”
By prioritizing clear communication, Rhett helped Bravo Group maintain strong relationships with its clients and employees.
In government, change often happens slowly. In business, it can happen overnight. Rhett learned to adapt quickly while staying focused on long-term goals.
“Being flexible doesn’t mean losing sight of your objectives,” he says. “It means finding new ways to get there.”
This mindset helped Rhett navigate challenges and turn them into opportunities.
Life Outside of Work
Rhett isn’t all business. He loves road trips, horticulture, and skiing. These hobbies help him recharge and stay balanced.
“Traveling clears my mind,” he says. “And there’s something therapeutic about getting your hands in the dirt.”
Philanthropy is another important part of Rhett’s life. He supports causes like the MidWest Food Bank in Harrisburg and the Daraja Academy in Kenya.
“Helping others reminds me what’s really important,” he shares.
What’s Next for Rhett?
After leaving Bravo Group in 2024, Rhett Hintze is embarking on a new chapter, blending his passion for innovation and leadership in a role at Microsoft. Here, he will focus on helping organizations modernize their workplaces with virtualization technology—a strategic approach he honed at Bravo.
“At Bravo, we made it possible for all employees to work on any device, anywhere, at any time,” Rhett explains. “This approach not only increased operational flexibility and resilience but also optimized our tech hardware spend. I’m excited to help other organizations achieve the same benefits.”
In addition to his new role, Rhett is dedicated to mentoring and consulting, sharing the lessons he’s learned from his extensive career.
His advice for aspiring leaders?
“Stay curious, listen to others, and always focus on the bigger picture,” he says.
Rhett’s journey demonstrates that the principles of public service—accountability, collaboration, and strategic thinking—can drive exceptional results in the private sector. Whether leading a government initiative or transforming workplace operations, his approach offers valuable insights.
“It’s not just about achieving goals—it’s about staying adaptable, building trust, and remembering the people behind the systems,” Rhett reflects. “Leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about creating an environment where others can thrive.”
As Rhett prepares to help organizations navigate the future of work, his career continues to be a testament to the power of thoughtful leadership and innovative thinking—proof that success is built not just on strategy, but on empowering others to succeed.
