Sir Patrick Bijou is a UK-based investment banker and fund manager who works in debt capital markets and private placements. Over more than 30 years, his career has moved between trading floors, capital markets desks, and leadership roles, while his philanthropic work has focused on practical projects that improve lives.
The first move that shaped everything
Sir Patrick was born in Georgetown, Guyana. At age five, he moved to Britain after his father received a scholarship to study. He has remained in the UK since, building a base there while his work expanded internationally.
That early change of place created a lasting pattern. His career would later stretch across major financial centers, but it kept the same focus: build stability in environments that are often unstable.
A career built on structure
Bijou spent 14 years living and studying in New York and began his Wall Street career at Wells Fargo. He moved onto the trading floor, specialized in derivatives and debt markets, and then expanded into bond trading and investment banking at institutions including Deutsche and Merrill Lynch.
Debt markets and derivatives reward disciplined thinking. They also demand clear communication and strong risk control. These habits stayed with him as his responsibilities grew.
At Wells Fargo, his early work included building banking relationships. Later, as a fund manager, he managed medium to high-net-worth clients and built solutions based on balance sheet analysis. He led a sales and operations platform with more than 20 staff and referred over $30 million in hard-dollar assets and $1.5 billion in investments to the Wealth Management Group. He also reviewed credit packages before partnerships were established, focusing on cash flow and income sources.
Deep expertise in private placements
Private placements became the spine of his work. Bijou helped establish the MTN and Private Placement Desk at Lloyds Bank and increased self-led deals from 4% to 32%. He later directed MTN and private placements at Conduit Capital Markets and Credit Agricole CIB and developed and marketed interest rate derivatives at Calyon using a structured, multi-product approach.
Across his career, he worked with complex products across asset classes, including equity derivatives, commodities, FX, credit, and inflation-linked structures. He also held a director role at BlackRock and founded The Tiger Fund.
Building companies in the current chapter
In the last decade, Bijou has focused on building and chairing ventures. He founded and chairs Blackhorse International and Blackhorse Holding LLC (2015 to current). In 2024, he became Founder and Chairman of Westpac Trading FZE and founded and chaired Blackhorse Tec Acquisition Ltd.
His business footprint spans the UK, with activity situated in the United States, Singapore, Dubai in the UAE, and the UK. His work remains centered on capital structure, deal design, and disciplined execution.
Writing as a way to share expertise
Bijou is also a best-selling author on private placement programs. His books include Private Placement Programs: The Holy Grail and Money in the New World Order. Writing has been a steady part of his life and a way to turn specialized knowledge into something more accessible and durable.
A second track: charity work with practical outcomes
Alongside finance, Bijou’s philanthropic work has focused on tangible projects. He has created irrigation systems in Sierra Leone, provided housing support for vulnerable children in India, and been involved in charity work connected to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. His experience has also included work connected to negotiating peace during genocides in Africa.
He also holds roles connected to international organizations and service groups, including ambassador positions and board responsibilities. In May 2021, he was appointed Ambassador by The Academy of Universal Global Peace USA and received the Human Excellency Award. His affiliations include work with groups such as the International Rights and Welfare Association (IRAWA), the Royal Diplomatic Club, the United Nations World Peace Association (UNWPA), and the Commonwealth Entrepreneurs Club, where he serves as President of International Banking Relations.
Education, credentials, and recognition
Bijou’s academic path includes a BA (Hons) in business studies, an MBA in economics and international banking, and a PhD in economics focused on quantitative easing and its market impact. His education record also includes honorary doctorates from The American University USA (Literature and Divinity, 2021) and Central Christian University, Malawi (PhD Hons, Professor of Criminology, 2022).
His credentials include FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 licenses and the CFA Level I exam completed in December 2015. He has also been knighted for services to banking and charity.
